Mariss et al,
I had no intention of badmouthing the Gecko. I was merely pointing out what I had read on another forum. Those were they guys badmouthing the Gecko drive, not me. Here's the link http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/mes...312/25998.html Read the second one down. NOTE: these are not my words.
Without Gecko, I would be cutting wood by hand today or using a stepper of unknown origin.
I did put on the resistors on both x axis drives. I daisy chained a 220k and a 47k between jumpers 11 and 12 on each drive. I am betting that this fix will work since it throttles the amperage back to 6 amps thereby never (hopefully) getting to the point where it reaches the 8 amp failsafe and starts to freewheel.
It may be that these motors are just too big for the steppers to handle. If that is the case then I may just buy smaller motors since I really don't need a combined cutting force of 600lbs on my x. I could probably get by with half of the cutting force.
The reason that Gecko didn't hear from me for 6 months was because I was using a friends spare gecko during that time. It never faulted during those 6 months.
