    Haas X Axis Taper Moves?

Just wondering is any one having problems when they try to taper very small amount in in (X) on the haas lathe?

Say im doing a 1.5" pin thats 12" long with a tail center in it.

    The OD is 1.499 -.0000 +.0005 (17-4 SS)

Any one ever have problems with the machine stepping, or leaving steps when trying to correct taper?

If I do a (-X) taper some times I get a step down, and it leave a mark.
If I do a (+X) taper it seems to be ok.

    What is a small amount?

I tried a taper of only a few thou over several inches and it was not smooth. I think it is that when the taper is small the taper per inch is close to the machine resolution so it goes in .0002 then cuts for a while then goes in another .0002. I couldn't figure out any way around it.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

Is it possible that the lathe is running in exact stop mode? This might create a small dwell mark for each command.

One good feature of the Galil motion card I used in one lathe retrofit, is the ability to load an entire sequence into the command buffer and execute it with zero delay between commands. This seemed to be the secret to a blended appearance on a flexible part.

Or maybe there is a parameter for "in position check" that you could temporarily modify for this job.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

HU and Geof I'm sure know better than me, but won't that control accept a U value in the same line as the Z- line? ie Z-3.U-.0002. Robert
