    Halting or freezing a servos?

I am using - Mach3 - Bob Campbell's BB - 320 Gecko drives - servo motors. Everything is connected and works great. Is it possible to halt the servo motors in place when a limit or e-stop condition is present, rather than cutting power to motor PS and Geckos. This will let the servos continue until the power supply has drained and freewheel after that. Am I missing something?

Yes, motor with brake. The brake releases with power applied. When Estop removes power, the brake goes on. It is usually not meant to brake down the motor, but Estop is not meant to be the usual stop method either. Usually you will not destroy the brake by using it to stop the shaft. The friction is not great enough. But it will wear quickly.

You could also freeze the input to the drive to command the motor to a stop. But this will not take care of the situation where there is an internal fault in the drive that makes it run away.
