    Exclamation Help with HobbyCNC Driver

Well, I did it......................I unpluged one of the motos from the driver while it was on................and yes, as stated in the instructions..............it blew something (says the UCN5804B's)............so I bought 6, overnighted..........replaced them and the 3amp fuse (it blew too) (it's the 120v power fuse).................AND.............the fuse keeps blowing shortly after turning the driver on.............AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Anyone knows if this should be a slow blow fuse or a fast acting fuse (I'm using the fast acting fuses).........

this is exactly why I went for Compumotor drives; yes they may be old (well some of what i got are) and pulled from equipment but the protection is top notch; I did the same last night; the drive is unaffected by it; just lights an LED to say there is a fault

I burned up 3 of my HobbyCNC 5804 chips before I found the problem. Mine was a bad connection in the 6 pin connectors between the board and the motor (that I had soldered together). Since I replaced the connectors with a terminal block, it has worked great.

I always blew the same pin on the chip. (pin 8) It got so hot it burned thru the socket.

I went and ordered Gecko G201 last night (and a 30v/10a transformer, 6500uf cap and bridge rectifier), I don't want to have that problem again...........

I may still try to fix the HobbyCNC board, and replace the cables and connectors (as wjbzone did).
Dave (of HobbyCNC) said to replace the socket for the UCN5804B that blow.

Bill, I'll check and see how pin 8 is on my board........thanks....

I had more problems with the socket the it was worth. It did not seem to be a solid connection. I soldered my 5804 to the PCB and left the socket out.

May as well leave the socket out if it has to be replaced any time the 5804 gets fried

I think that's why I didn't get a solid connection on the socket. When the 5804 burned up (I saw a flame shooting out the side), the socket took some damage even if it didn't burn it up.
