    Help reviving a cnc router

Pictures of what I have, seen it run when I first got it, guy I got it from was supposed to help me figure it out, after he got his money he left me high and dry.

Anyway, here it is, pics of the controller and steppers, plug in, what do I need to make this thing work? I really appreciate the help.

This looks like an old DeskCNC router, from before they went to servos. I'd suggest you contact Fred Smith at IMService we are THE source for low cost Cad-Cam and Desktop CNC Mills, lathes, and Routers and ask him what it would take to revive this thing in its original configuration. The other alternative would be to junk the old controller and start fresh with Mach3 and a G-540 from Geckodrives, which would probably work better.

If you saw it working, you should just need to download deskcnc, configure it for the version 1 card and set the machine parameters and Accel curve. Did it come with a computer? Any chance you could get the config. file from the seller?

You will also need a password to unlock the software.

The computer that is has used is a Toshiba Tecra 510CDT laptop, is there an easy way to upgrade this to a USB and a newer computer system? Without spending a ton of money? My CNC laser uses the same laptop, and Ive tried a newer computer on it too with no luck.

Laptops are generally bad for cnc, unless you run a USB smoothstepper, but with that your looking at several hundred dollars after you purchase it, new stepper drivers, Mach3 machine control and CAM software.

Deskcnc is basically the machine control, CAM and smoothstepper in one unit except it uses serial instead of USB.

You can buy an off lease IBM small form factor desktop with XP pre loaded and a serial port off Ebay for under $100 that works perfectly with deskcnc and Mach3.

If it worked in the past with the laptop it should still work now. Can you give a detailed breakdown of what you have tried to get it working?

Ok, thank you, I will stay with the serial and work on a better computer then.
