Help troubleshooting possible EZ Path motherboard problem

I have an EZpath that I've been trying to sort out since I picked it up last year. I had an earlier post where I detailed my struggles to this point.

    https://en.industryarena.com/forum/n...e--463883.html

I've swapped the old HDD out for a new SSD like was suggested in the previous post, and changed the FDD to a Gotek floppy emulator. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get the SSD to work in the machine. I ended up using another PC and loading DOS and the EZ Path software onto the new HDD that way.

The problem I'm having now is when I boot the machine with the HDD, I lose all signal to the monitor/keyboard. Without the HDD hooked up, I can boot into the BIOS/CMOS setup menu. I don't think it's a software issue with the new HDD because it did it before I loaded DOS/EZ Path on it also. I'm wondering if there's a BIOS setting I'm missing. The ebay ad for the HDD said to set the computer BIOS to "No UDMA/DMA on only 512mb" but I can't find those settings in the BIOS menus anywhere.

My other thought is a motherboard/backplane issue. I've checked the power going into the backplane from the power supply and I have 11.4/5.2v going in, not sure if this is adequate. I just need some guidance on the next step.

Re: Help troubleshooting possible EZ Path motherboard problem

Trying to get old and new mb, hd, etc to all work together rarely successful. If screen go blank after bios screen the DOS startup is crashing. PC/bios typically not work w SSD regard less of adapter; only works with IDE HD. PC hardware tech is not necessarily backward compatible. Need a complete update to 'new' pc; HD/DOM w IDE.

Note not all PCs are compatible with BMDC controller. This would be evident if DOS starts and machine start fail. A moderate performance single board computer that runs DOS is sufficient. There are several places offer complete replacement kits, (backplane, sbc, DOM w software installed) guaranteed to work. Install in 15 min; done, get to work.

One other issue if DOS boot works but machine fails to start is BMDC may need upgrade: not compatible with new pc, its an ISA bus timing problem. To check compatibility look @ BMDC card next to ISA edge connector, the big square chip must be Mach435. If it is a 435 then BMDC failed.
