    home made mill and shaper

    My grandfather passed away recently - the world lost an excellent machinist/woodworker/jewlery maker so on and so on.. I had forgotten that he had made these - I don't know where he got the plans.

    Thought some of you would get a kick out of that. I might have been over while he was casting parts for these (I was probably 12).

    As you can see from the chips - he did use them

    Those are a Gingery Shaper and Mill built according to Dave Gingery's books. I would bet he also has the entire set of books. Well worth your time to find and study. Also the foundry has to be around somewhere.

    we had also found parts that must be part of a metal cutting lathe he started to cast. He had way too many projects going on

    That sounds vaguely familiar - thank you. I am sure they are around there.

    That looks like Gingery's designs

    Yep, those look like the Gingery series. Myself, I am about to construct the lathe. What other projects did your grandfather do? It sounds like he was very active.
