probably not till after the ballscrews version is done, about a month.
Want to make sure that the same parts work for both, they do on paper.

The belt drive will let someone use a smaller motor for the Z if they want or for a servo.
Plus with a plastic cover, should look nice and clean.

I can understand that. I definitely appreciate the tack you've taken on this. Allows for a bit of bootstrapping for us one-mill wonders. Looking cool though. Thanks for the updates.

Hey Hoss! I was recently watching a few mastercam X4 videos and saw there 5 axis machining videos.

I saw they were using a trunnion table with a rotary axis centered in the middle. Since you have already made a trunnion table, and have successfully used a 4th axis, couldn't you modify the rotary table onto the trunnion table and then a person would have 5 axis machining, along with power draw bar, and auto tool changer? That sounds like it would be one hell of a powerful machine in the price range of most! Let me know your thoughts

This is a good visual demo, just imagine it on the G0704

Yeah the mechanicals aren't the hard part, it's the CAM software needed to make the parts
    that's the bi*ch.

    5-axis CAM

I agree - looks cool as hell ... have you priced 5-axis CAM software (that was enough to scare me away) !!!! i would have imagine would be a steep learning curve - fabulous once you learned it though!!! talk about tool porn!!! id make all my friends come over and watch and it would be lost of them because they wouldnt even know that they were looking at!!!

Not sure what your using for a breakout board - or maybe your doing something else - correct me if i am wrong but i believe most of the them are limited to 4 axis - could be you can extend them?? i think mach3 can handle 6 axis.

if you did it would look something like this:

This is true, and there might be a forum rule against it. I cleaned up my posts below.
Dont want to waste any more of hoss's thread on tangents.

    B5 20 Cnc mill

    Hello

I have a ct129 Milling machine (bf20 style) and installed a phase one cnc kit on by bolting on some steppers and using the stock lead screws exaclty like you have done

Now I need to move to phase 2 which is installing ball screws "exaclty" as you are planning

I would like to purchase your ball screw kit for the bf20 kit immedialty when it is ready so please let me know when you have a kit for sale

I look forward to your reply

I keep buying the screw stock but then someone orders a kit for the X2 and I cut it up for them.
3 kits going out Monday but I have plenty for the G0704 this time.
Should be getting them on mine next weekend to try out first.

Exciting to see Mach control the spindle. Will you be sharing where you tied into the spindle control?

That is awesome - almost 7K RPM will be a HUGE improvement for guys that work with small cutters in aluminum (like myself). I guess spindle bearings should be first on my list. I'll be one of your first customers in line for the V pulleys as well!

Anything more than 1.5 HP is definitely overkill, don't waste money on power
that the mill could never take advantage of.
A 454 big block in an S10 is for showing off not for practical use.

Is that Red Paint or Anodizing?

    Hoss,
Did you paint that part red or are you experimenting with anodizing?

Hooking up the C6 was a piece of cake with CNC4PC's wiring guide.
