Basically unscrew the drawbar about 2 turns and tap the top with a hammer. I support my quill by hand rather than clamp it tight in the faint hopes I will not damage the spindle bearings too much. Out has gone the 3/8 drill chuck supplied and because of my fear of damaging the Eastern Bearings I have chosen to permanently fit a taper shank collet chuck to take ER16 collets, no point in larger size as I suspect the plastic gears will melt or end up as plastic chips if I go larger in diameter than 3/8 or 10mm cutters. If I should ever need to use a drill chuck asgain I will fit it with a 3/8 or 10 mm diameter parallel shank and hold it in a collet. Now no more sticking tapers as the collets are released when the cap nut is unscrewed and no more hammering on the drawbar to release the taper.

Unscrew drawbar a couple of turns, tap with hammer. REMOVE drawbar and chuck drops into your hand.
Replace with collet and tighten drawbar. Now, there are TWO different threads for these parts. The collet you buy may not have the same metric threads as the drawbar you have.
In this case, you can either take your collet and present drawbar to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a same-length 3/8-16 bolt, or buy a new drawbar from Little Machine Shop:

Keep the metric drawbar screwed into the chuck or it may grow legs and be hard to find when you need the chuck.
