Hi All
I have a mill that allows me to swivel the head and was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to make sure the head is 90 to the table.
cheers

I think you are asking how do I tram my mill head.

I didn't word that right I don't need it to be 90 to the table - I have tilted my mill head so that it is parallel to the table but how do I check it is true to the table?
Iano
Sorry it needs to be a true 45 to the table how do I check this?
cheers

I think I know what your trying to say. You are wanting to run your vertical mill as a horizontal mill. Only way I can think of that will tram it the way you want it place a pied of ground tool stock that you know is truly strait not tapered or bent into the spindle collet. Then place your dial indicator on the bed of the mill and run it along the rod with the X axis. This will tell you if the head needs to be adjusted.
this is amusing you are wanting to rotate the head like this but at 90 deg.
If you're going to do it alot, a tool like the protram would make it a piece of cake if you
have a 45 degree angle plate.

many thanks Hoss that looks the ticket.
I will give eartaker's way a go first but I think an investment into the protram would be very worth while.
