Can anyone give me more information on the type of laser I need to cut acrylic sheets about 5mm thick so that I get a clear finish on the cut. Preferably I want to build the table and the laser. Any information will be appreciated.

cut acrylic sheets about 5mm thick , i think you can use 80w laser cutting machine, can you tell me the width and length of your acrylic sheets, then i can suguess you a type of machine in our factory, i you would like.

The average size I would need to cut would be about 500mmX500mm but I was thinking of a table size of 1000mm X 1000mm so I would be able to mutiple pieces at once. Also would I would like to find out if a laser cutter would be able to make small holes as well (approx 1.5mm).I would be cutting 3mm / 4mm and 5mm acrylic.

35 watts will cut that. My Epilog 40watt will cut 1/4" acrylic no problem.

35 - 40 watts will cut the Acrylic. 80 watt will just cut faster. It depends on how much you are willing to pay for the extra speed.

You are right. 40w laser can also cut acrylic, big power will cut faster and have good cutting effect. You can also choose LG 3040, it can do that . And this desktop is very popular and cheap.

Lasers from China are ok, but:
1. Laser life - 1000 hours. In real life she works 3 week on maxim power
8 hours/day. Laser tube is cheap (150$ - 80W).
2.Focal length of final lens 2 inch - for a decent cut of 20 mm of acrilic need focal length of 7 inch.
3. Reflectors for light path are from Ge coated with Au. On 80 w laser first reflector is changed every 2 weeks.
