Looking at buying some steppers, (first run at electronics). For $30 extra there is the option of upgrading the steppers to 305 oz from around 150oz. Good deal, not a good deal, is it worth it. Let me know opinions. Looking forward to responses. Thanks

As far as I am concerned, the more power, the better. Without a doubt. If your machine is the size of a postage stamp, it might be overkill but if it's a reasonable size, you will likely be very happy with more powerful motors. Iit's likley you will find the limitations of any motor you put on, so when you find the limits of the 305s, you will likely be glad you didn't choose the 150s.

This is all speculation, of course.

Motor size is dependent on machine type, size, rotary to linear conversion method. There are downsides to larger motors, they have more mass and have larger rotor inertias which typically translates in to slower accelerations and deceleration rates. Bottom line, it's all a system. Machines, motor, drives, screws, power supply all contribute to performance.
