    Jogging issues.

    A newbie jogging question, with Mach 4 and UC100 motion controller.

    With Mach 4 incremental jogging set at 0.0010 successive clicks of the X+ button produce the following DRO readings:

    .6222
    .6241
    .6232
    .6251
    .6242 and so on.

    This happens with X, Y, and Z sometimes with bigger jumps.

    I am thinking this is a settings issue but not sure what.

    What are your steps/ unit set to. If you're steps/unit don't divide evenly into .001 increments, then you can't jog in .001" increments.

    Steps per unit is set to 16256 with a 1605 metric ball screw. 10,000 might be better?

    10,000 didn't help. Might have to understand the math better.

    Steps/unit are dictated by your hardware, and microstepping amount. You can't arbitrarily change them.

    According to this math:

    The formula for the motor tuning is as such:

    5mm pitch ballscrew (common on georges machines)
    5mm travel per turn of the ballscrew
    Converted to inch = 5.08 turns per inch of travel
    Driver Microstep resolution = 4000ppr

    4000 X 5.08 = 20320

    I should be at 16256 (microstep setting on MX 4660 is 1/16=3200), which is where I was.

    I am not sure why it does the "two steps forward and one step back" thing.

    Post your drive motors model, Breakout board model, You cant just set things up which is not supported on your current set-up, custom setting it above or below your hardware`s capabilities will result to an offsetting issues on either of your drives, a pain in the ass for short

    Motors are Leadshine HS23B30A, with Leadshine driver MX4660, with dip switches set to 1/16 - 3200 steps per revolution, Mach 4, UC100 motion controller converting my USB cable to the 25 pin connector on the MX 4660.

    I think the 16256 steps per inch is right.

    Just not sure why it goes +X then -X when I am pressing the X+ button both times (see consecutive list of DRO readings above)..

    On your scenario I think it`s an acceleration issue, (axis doing backflips) try adjusting the acceleration on the ports and pins to eliminate it.

    I tried cutting the acceleration from 30 to 20 and it did not seem to help. I am wondering if it is a shielding issues. My motor wires are not shielded. Today (as on other occasions) jogging the Z axis .001 results in the X axis moving as well. It takes 2 clicks of the mouse to jog .001. The X axis would move .006 on one click and go back on the next - this was when jogging Z. It doesn't seem like it should do that.
