    How much power doyou need to cut trought gold ??

    Well like a simple sheet ...i would say 1 mm or 2 max

    Article in jewelry magazine about Tiffany's using a laser to cut parts out for findings mentioned needing a 150 watt ND:Yag laser to do the job.

    We use 532nm lasers for engraving gold plating. It takes 18W of power to remove a 0.15mm depth at 80mm/s.

    Based on my experience I would agree with Jack, 150W sounds about right for cutting 1mm sheet and you could reduce the speed and do 2mm with the same power.

    If you don't have sufficient power and try to use lower speeds it doesn't mark clean so would probably not cut either.
