    Question Lathe Backplate identification

    Hi,

This might be a really newbie question, I have a lathe for 6 years already but I never had to buy a back plate for a chuck but now I have...

Its a chinese lathe and on the manual doesn't say what kind it is. Just says Morse taper #5 - MT#5 and spindle bore 1.5'' or 38mm

I know its cam lock, and it have 3 cam pins. My 3 jaw chuck is 6'' and I have a 8'' independent that fits the same spindle with the same system, actually the 4 jaw one doesn't have a back plate, the pins go bolted straight to the chuck.

The backplate of mine looks like this one http://www.shars.com/files/products/.../202-5450D.jpg

But I don't know, If its 3 pins camlock its alwats D1 - something? Or there are other standards of camlocks with 3 pins?

If not mine will be either D1-3, D1-4 or D1-5 because they are the only D's with 3 pins... How to know witch one?

    Thanks in advance,

    Gustavo

Here's a link to all the normally used lathe spindle dimensions, should help you to figure what you need.
