This seems to be a popular machine with plans in DXF format.

    Think substitute CNC Wanna Be

If it uses Aluminum for the frame then use MDF, if it uses precision ground ball screws, use threaded rod, if THK linear rails then use black pipe and skate bearings.

You need to do some thinking on this, I think

What are the complicated materials you are referring to ?

Some people have had luck using the cheap plastic cutting boards when they can get Delrin...

You wouldn't use the cutting board material to build the frame. You can use MDF for that just fine.

The cutting-board (delrin substitute) would be for cheap bearing surfaces...

The Gas-Pipe and Skate-Bearings route is the easiest to start with.
Look at this machine. That should be very do-able even with limited resources.

you can order delrin online pretty cheap (i found it at indplastic.com) also, nylon supposedly works well and I'm sure ldpe (low density polyethelyne) spelling* such as cutting boards will work well. what are you using for stepper motors/controllers/ cad/cam software? By the way, .dwg and .dxf are cad files. You need a program such as autocad to open those.

i'm currently planning my first cnc and am ordering from hobbycnc.com (when I get the cash). you should check out their site. They have unipolar chopper drivers for less than $100. Xylotec has some nice drivers too for both unipolar and bipolar stepper motors.
