    Magneto ignition thoughts and questions

My curiosity was aroused when someone on a bike forum hosed magneto ignitions. Without getting into the arguments for or against, I'm wondering how a person might add a points-less module that offers advance(retard) timing for the spark. If an ATmini could do the brain work, a ring of very small magnets added to the rotor could excite a small coil to power it.

This is brain storming the possibilities. An encoder measures speed and TDC, and the microcomputer plots the advance curve to engine speed. Any thoughts?

    Like a megajolt system?

Doable for sure on even more of a DIY system, you could add a map sensor so you could adjust timing for engine load as well. My dirt bike uses a mag sensor with an electronic unit and coil. No points on any bike I've owned in the last 20 or more years.
