    Max and Rapid Feedrate

    Hi Guys,

What is the difference between max and rapid feedrates? How do these two variables relate to the feeds and speeds/max axis speeds you set in Mach 3 under motor tuning?

    I found this site:

How Fast Can You Feed? : Modern Machine Shop

That basically suggests that your rapids are double to your max feedrate.

    Re: Max and Rapid Feedrate

You are mixing commercial machine and hobby. Most hobby type machine controllers will allow feed rates up to the maximum. Rapids cannot exceed this maximum. So, the max feed rate and rapid speed are the same. That said, it doesn't necessarily mean you can cut at that speed. You may be able to rapid that speed, but once cutting forces are added it could exceed the capabilities of your drive motors.

The speed you enter in the "motor tuning" dialog is the maximum speed the machine is capable of. Mach3 will use this speed for rapids. Any axis movement will be limited by this speed, it cannot be exceeded using F commands or feed override buttons.
