    Measurement Please

    Howdy,
As you may know I am designing and building a base for a soon to be ordered Tormach 1100 Series 3.

A friend just pointed out to me that the dimensions I have been using from the Tormach web site are for a Series 1.

So if one of y'all would be so kind, I'd really appreciate two measurements. See attached drawings. One is the measurement from the centerline if the mill to the outside of the electrical cabinet. The second is with the table all the way to the left. The measurement from the centerline of the mill to the left end of the table.

Since I am currently space limited, these two dimensions will allow me to make sure my base is big enough to fit the mill and its operating envelope, but not waste any floor space.

    Thank you very much,

    kr

    Russ,
Thank you Sir! I appreciate you.

I know everyone has plenty to do without helping a newbie. But someone will help when they can. That is the best part about this forum.

    Hirudin,
Thank you. That is the document I started with, and it was pointed out to me that it is for a Series 1. I know of some things that have changed since that drawing was produced, but I don't know all the things that have changed. The dimensions might be fine, or they might have changed. I just don't want to trust it since I'm committing several hundred dollars in material. If I didn't need the absolutely smallest sized base, I'd just add some fudge factor and call it good. But I am jamming yet another big thing into my one car garage space, and it must be as small as possible.

So I'd like actual measurements of a Series 3.

    Thanks again,

    kr

Ah. I thought that seemed too easy.

I'd do the measuring for you as well, but I don't have one either.

Hey, you sound just like me.
So far I have my PCNC-770, surface grinder, Kennedy 3-tier toolbox, 12x36 lathe, workbench, welder, Millrite mill, 60-gallon compressor, and my wifes washer/dryer all crammed into my 1-car garage.
I'll find more room if I need to!

    Facing the machine, Series 3

39" left side center to the absolute end (e stop)
26 1/4" right side to the e stop

The left side on the series 3 has a cast cover over the stepper that extends beyond the stepper a couple inches. I dont think the earlier machines had this cover over the X axis stepper motor.

    Mike,
Thank you so very much. The left side measurement is exactly what I need. The 39" measurement is quite a bit different than the Series 1 dimension of 36.25". Using the Series 1 measurement would have been very bad for me.

The right side measurement needed is from the center of the mill column to the outside right edge of the electrical cabinet not counting the hinges, mains power disconnect or 4th axis connector.

Thank you again for taking the time to help a newbie ! ! !

PS: when I get up and running I hope to be able to help others, instead of just ask dumb questions.

27 3/4" right side center of the machine to the outer edge of the cabinet proper (excluding hinges)
