hi there
got a question but i don't know if it is possible to do. in the attached drawing is a very basic drawing of a rear suspension. heres the question, is it possible to move the objects in the drawing (upper link,lower link,rear end)as one unit while maintaining the two chassis pivots as base points and keeping the the length of the upper and lower links fixed so that the rear end would follow the links all as one unit? basically cycle the suspension to check pinion angle, plunge etc. i've been having to do each part individual (rotate,move,rotate, move, etc) to extended, mid, compressed to check it now. hopefully that makes sense, most of the time it does in my head but getting it out of there isn't always the easiest.

yes, if I understand correctly. You need to start a selection box coming from right to left and cover just a portion of the 2 or 3 items you wish to move. This will highlight those objects only and leave the others fixed. Then right click and selct rotate, pick your base point and start to rotate to your next position. You can always use undo to reset to the previous position.

To get more advanced you may also make blocks out of the items that you want grouped.

I havent worked in ACAD in so long but I would do a help search on "blocks"


Also to simplify things you could put an entire component on its own layer so that you could lock out all the other layers and manipulate just that component without fear or disturbing the others

No, you can't do that in AutoCad. You want to move the rearend up and down while keeping the left side pivot points fixed, correct? You want the two trailing arms to rotate around there respective pivots while you move the rearend. Can't do that. Only simple rotations.

thats exactly what i was looking for. i tried every thing but was hoping to find a hidden command. is there anything from autodesk that will? inventor?
mech. desktop? or how about solidworks?

That more of an animation thing I think (withour actually looking at your drawing), but you may be able to make portions of it into blocks and move as
individual pieces.... There are, I believe add on products for acad that may
assist in this sort of thing, but I am not sure....

Sorry if thats just a bunch of maybes, but it does not sound like standard
cad functionality....
