    My dust shoe

It's a plexi pan about 1" deep and bolted to the bottom of the router bracket. Then the vinyl flaps are attached. There's also a stationary secondary fence (because I could). The masking tape is temporary. I'll take it off after/if the concept proves itself. I'll also make it adjustable. Used another poster's idea of using a carpet runner for the flaps. Low dollar.

Actually there is a story behind that. Within a few months of buying the router it began to oxidize. It began to look more and more like cast iron. Not only was it ugly- it wouldn't slide up and down in the router frame. So Bosch rebuilt it. If I remember correctly they changed from aluminum to magnesium (or the other way around).

Magnesium gets dark with age, then gets a white powder covering it when it oxidizes. Looks real ugly.

    Follow-up on dust shoes

After using it for a while the carpet runner, at least the one I bought, simply is not supple enough. It works okay most of the time but I like to lay a sheet of foam down and do test runs. That's a great test for the suitability of a dust flap material. The carpet runner flaps will drag the foam right out from under the clamps. I suppose that one of the commercially available see-throughs like ShopBot might be suitable. But it would cost me a half a yard or better to find out. I think I may just go straight to brushes. I found a hand brush in Home Depot the other day. It was genuine horse hair and I was amazed at how much softer it was than the synthetic ones. And I believe that's crucial given the pole-vaulting effect of brushes or flaps that get lined up just right and push up on the shoe rather than bend. McMasters stocks them. Stay tuned.

    Very cool,

I actually thought about using one for my spindle. What did you use for a power supply and speed control? Im currently using a 1500watt RC brushless and powering it with HUGE 12v dc power supply. It works pretty well but Im looking at other options.

I use one of these to control the speed ( Link below ), cheep and it works on any router type motor , I have my DC treadmill motor going through a bridge rectifier so it converts AC to DC
