We are looking for a X-Y axis machine which will automatically raster.
It will have an optical sensor near the head of the unit which will read the material directly below the head. If it “sees” a piece of material, then it will signal the head to close a circuit. If there is no material, then it will open the circuit. The material is high contrast, so the optical sensor should not be an issue.
Accuracy is not really that important because the tolerance is 0.06”. The X-axis can increment 0.100” and the same for the Y-axis.
The head will weigh around 10 pounds, and it doesn’t need to move that fast. If it moves 0.1 meters per second, that would be plenty fast.
I think it could be built with something like 80/20 or a similar material. I believe the more difficult part will be writing the code. I am unfamiliar with exactly what language these machines use, although I do have a background in computer programming.
The bed needs to be 34” x 20”.
I am located in the USA. I am happy to assemble the machine myself over here, if someone could even provide me with consulting services. Since I don’t really know where to start, any advice is gladly appreciated.
Thank you.
