So what's the verdict on the Allegro?

    Hi Guys,

After paging through the millions of pages of this post and also skipping a few, it seems that the Allegro chip might actually be fixed and do the job. Is there anybody out there which can point me to the location of a working schematic and board layout which overcomes the microstepping issues which the 3986 had.

I was looking at the Gecko drive's again and although they look like good value for money, they are still expensive relative to my salary (or worse, the bit that is left over) so if the Allegro chip can do the same job for 1/10th the price I'm definitely interested

    Best Regards

The fix is in the A4989 chip. It's pin compatible with the a3986. You should be able to substitute it into one of the better a3986 boards.

You have a functional version of the A3986 PCB 5A performance?
There are several versions but I do not know which works

don't use big mosfets, use IRFZ24n or smaller so that input capacitance is the least, the rest is not all that critical.. i have working PCB
