No init found. Try passing init= bootarg. Controller won't fully boot.

I turned on the machine tonight and got the "Intel" screen, then the Tormach logo screen, then a black screen with ...

"No init found. Try passing init= bootarg.

    BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13-3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

    (initramfs)"

The first time I got this, there was a USB stick in the port on the 1100 machine stand. I removed it and rebooted and got the same thing.

The power has been off and on several times due to weather, but I think the machine was off from a full power down from several days ago, but was still plugged in.

I don't want to loose the data on the machine. What can or should I do to get it to fully boot?

    Thanks for the help.

Re: No init found. Try passing init= bootarg. Controller won't fully boot.

I had tried that last night until I couldn't keep my eyes open. I made a LiveCd on a DVD and booted from it for the Ubuntu desktop. I searched for "terminal" to enter the commands:

    sudo -s

    and then,

    fsck -y /dev/sda1

It worked for a little while, found an error it fixed, and stopped.

I took out the LiveCD DVD and rebooted the machine.

    It started normally.

In trying several different things and looking around on the Ubuntu desktop, I verified on my controller (a former Mach 3 Tormach controller updated to PathPilot) that "sda1" is the correct location. I don't know more about it, but read that it could be others like sda2, sda3, or sda4.
