Noob has some questions for the vets.

Hello every body, my name is Crash505 and I am an addict. I have a phlatprinter and I just love to see the foam getting cut. My addiction has progressed to the point that I am assembling the pieces to build Nate's 2x4 machine from fine line automation. As soon as he lets me know it is ready, I will have it, HA HA HA, ok so I digress.

While waiting for my machine I have been trying to glean as much information as I can about this whole world of cnc. I have sorta figured out cambam, and Mach3. I have evaluated most every software out there, and read post after post on this forum. I do have a few questions.

Since my router will not have a tool changer, how do you guys deal with tool changes during a cut? Noticing that there are tons of Vetric VCarve Pro files out there that I can cut using the trial version, save the toolpath ad import into Mach3, most of them have multiple tools.

Bits? I have a Hitachi 12VC router, and I would like a few recommendations as to what bits I should stock up on? I want to carve signs, route name plates for desks, and engrave carvings.. Also would like to cut foam and plastics. Also, where is the best place on the net to get these items?

That's all for now, but I am sure over the next month I will be posting more.

    Thanks

The only files you can cut with the trial of V Carve are the samples that come with it.

In Mach3, in General Config, Tool Change options, select "Stop Spindle, Wait for Cycle Start". When it gets to the toolchange (M6), Mach will stop. You can jog and change tools, then cycle start to resume.
