    Okuma Cadet LN8C Lathe

    I'm back again!

    Okuma LNC8C Cadet Lathe - circa 1984 ...

    Everything has been working just fine lately - mainly due to the help we have received on this forum! - but today we had a part slip out of the chuck and it ended up pushing the turret back by about 0.3102". Now when we run a program all of our Z-Values are incorrect, the facing cut doesn't even touch the part because now it's 0.3102" away from the face of the part. We're trying to figure out how to move our Z-Axis back into position because as of now our only option is to alter every line in our code to move the Z-Axis in by 0.3102". There has to be a way to realign the turret, correct?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

    1. Turret alignment. Check the difference of diameters. For instance, cut 50mm and 5mm. You will get, let's say 51mm and 8mm. Means, the turret needs alignment because the difference is not 45mm.
    2. Chuck clamp limit switches. Lost worpiece leads to imidiate stop. With lost workpiece the draw tube moves a bit more to clamp position ( retaract in case of OD clamping ) reaches the LS and the control reacts to lost workpiece.
    Chek this functionality on your machine, I am not sure if this applies to that old model, but, I believe it is. Sure, it it described in the maintenanace and operation manual.
    3. Origin ( zero ) you set very easy on Okuma wherever you want. The procedure is simple:
    Take workpiece or part, clamp it, run spindle. 50rpm ( allowed with door open ) is enough. Take tool with Z offset =0 ( the same procedure with every tool, just use MDI-manual mode ) ad touch the surface with the tool tip. Find the zerro setting screen ( Parameterrs ), place selection on required line and push or write "CALL". That will be zero. Entering CALL 10 <write> makes this point = 10.
    This is for OSP.
    Note in case if you don't know the tool with zerro offset. MDI mode take whatever tool and command to go a little bit. For instance:
    T010101 <write>
    G00G91Z1X1 <write> move by 1 from the present position. Neccessary in order to have real work point coordinates with tool ofset.
    S49M3 <write> spindle run slow.
    Now press MDI-Manual push button. Now you have your tool T01 with offset, the real work point coordinates and you can move the work point ( tool tip ) the same way as in manual mode.

    You need to indicate the face of the turret while you move the x-axis in and out, and then the tool pocket to check for turret rotation.

    My guess is that you have about a day of turret alignment headed your way.
