    peck drilling cycle

I have a new Genos 200 lathe with a P200LA-R control. I'm trying to program a peck drill cycle that will peck .05" and return to my entry plane until it reaches my final Z depth. Instead it makes several pecks and only returns to my entry plane about every 1".
    I have it written like this: G74 X0. Z-2.75 D.05 L.1 F.002
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wow I thought this would be an easy one. Does nobody know or am I just being laughed at?

    Does your control read G83?

G83 is part of the LAP functions on this control.

G83 will do a retract to R on each peck. I know G73 does the short retract. Haven't tried the G74.

Change your code to use D.05 and L.05 then it will peck and retract at the same point.

    Best regards,

OkumaWiz is the correct answer here, as though he needed my approval.
The G83 is part of the lap cycle in the lathe, shags. In a mill it's a deep hole drilling cycle, but that doesn't apply here.
in the lathe, the G74 is defined as a "transverse grooving/drilling fixed cycle". You can use it for face grooving as well as drilling on or off center, assuming your drill can drill off center. The formatting you'd be looking for is as defined below:
    G74 X0 Z-2.75 D.05 L.05 F.002
The L value is how far to peck in before full retract to reference plane, the D is the peck before stopping to break a chip and retract a value defined in the parameters and identified as "DA" which is the distance it will lift from the position it stopped before taking it's next peck. This can be defined by DA or can be set in parameters under "Other function 1".

Let us know you're up and running.

Thanks a bunch guys! The L.05 did the trick, it's running like a champ now. I've really struggled with going from an old Nakumara Tome to the new Okuma. There are a lot of codes that don't match up and the manuals for the Okuma are written for someone far more advanced than me. lol It's been a battle but we're making good parts so I guess that's what counts. Thanks again.

    No worries.
I think were all here to help and learn.
Sometimes we read too quickly or get distracted mid read.
Was a good opportunity to share the differences between the two types.

Ya I enjoy learning new things probably more than anything! I got these mills dropped on me with no training and no experience with them so I got a lot to learn about the Okuma programming. I will keep looking back for more! Thanks!
