    Power Loss

We have had several power losses resulting in machine breakdowns. Yesterday someone hit a light pole causing the the power to go on and off twice before we could shut the disconnects to the machines. We left early because of it. Power was out for some time. We came in today and 2 machines are down from it. One has a spindle drive problem and the other a software problem, both machines are Hurco's. Is there any way to prevent something like this, maybe a UPS type of system?

For the very short term... You nailed it. UPS.
Unless you've got a massive battery bank though, that's only going to keep you running for a short while (at least you can do a controlled shut down).

If you want to keep working, it's time to do that, plus look into a backup generator (gee, guess what industry I happen to work in!).

I worked electronics in a glass plant for a time many years back. The machines that formed the molten glass into bottles had multiple motors that had to be synchronized to one another for the machine to operate properly. A short term power failure (blink out) would through them out of sync and there would be molten glass in places it was not intended to be. A longer power outage could create heaps of molten glass on and in the machine. They installed a UPS system for these machines to eliminate the problem. The UPS was about 7 feet tall, 15 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. The battery room held several racks of large batteries with 96 Volts at 800 amp capacity. It would run the machines for about 15 minutes after power failure. That was long enough to allow a normal shutdown.
