Problem with Mach or Plasma cutter?

It's been a little over a month since I have done anything with my plasma table and have returned to a problem. The last time I used it, I cut out a test part and it worked fine. When I tried to use it the other day to cut out a part the torch fired and started to loop in and lower itself to the cut height, it pierced thru the metal then the torch lowered to the steel and shorted out which stopped the program. I have a TD cutter and the blinking lights indicated that the fault at 85 psi with 5 blinks per second was a temporary short, turn it off then back on and it is fine. I tried to cut out a square a couple hours ago and it cut one side of the square and part of another side before the torch went down to the steel and shorted out again and dragged about a 1/4" before it stopped (it has done this twice) all the other times it pierces the steel then thats it. Any Ideas of what is wrong?

Torch height control, arch voltage, voltage devider, will cause torch to dive and drag on the table..

If that happened to me I'd have the Arch Voltage set wrong..

Make sure ground clamp is on the work and not just some where on the machine. That will cause more problems than you think.

    Wish I could help more.

I have the ground clamp on the workpiece. The arc volts could be it, only problem is I can't find where to enter it.

My torch height control is a separate unit to my Mach 3 controller. So it's set externally if you want to call it that.

You need to set the arch volts that matches the amperage, torch consumables, and metal thickness.

The plasma power unit manual tells all.... You take the arc volts printed in that manual and divide it by 4 and that's what you set in your controller "most likely"

Depends on where your voltage divider is and how the controller reads it.

Plasma machines are real fussy about arch volts so you'll have to get a handle on it.

You've got to have a manual on your controller......
