    Quieting stepper motors

I thought this StealthChop technology by a German company Trinamic might be applicable to quieting the steppers on a Tormach. Hush noisy steppers with novel drive algorithm | EDN

If you ignore the fact that their chip is for two-phase steppers, and the Tormach uses three-phase steppers, so it would require swapping out the motors and motor drivers, and, in all probability power supplies. if you want quiet, use AC servos - they are virtually silent, and FAR faster.

Note that the StealthChop approach to quieting 2 phase steppers is only effective at low stepping rates.

Unless you choose to not ignore the fact that series 1 and 2 Tormachs used 2 phase motors.

In which case those owners would be better off spending their money to buy series III updated steppers and drivers instead of "stealth" drivers.

The whining noise from low step rates isn't the biggest noise offender in a milling operation.
