    Question Reloading base plate

I have a Hornady LNL reloading press on order for my shooting and reloading hobby.

I would like to mount the press on a metal base plate attached to my workbench. I am undecided between a steel or aluminum base plate.

I know that RCBS sells a 5/8 inch thick aluminum base plate for use with their press, but I would have to redrill and tap it anyway for my press.

Can I please get some recommendations regarding the preferred metal and thickness for this application?

I am worried about the strength of an aluminum base plate, but since aluminum is cheaper I wondered if I could use a 5/8 inch thick 6061-T6 aluminum base plate or thicker for this application, or some other aluminum. Can someone tell me if this would be adequate under the loads exerted by my Hornady press? I really don't know what those loads are but they are supposed to be high and I would like to play it safe.

Any comments and recommendations would be appreciated.

I just saw a video on youtube, 5/8 aluminum would do the job. You just have to be sure the workbench is sturdy enough to hold the plate and press.

    Best regards
