Request. Convert SolidModel (Solidworks) into Mastercam

My CNC guy for some reason cannot open the solidworks file into mastercam. Can someone here PM me and convert a solid model into Mastercam for me? I need it pretty fast. Thank you.

Use the parasolids file converter, file to open or in the list change from .x_t to .sld
Or, just output the solidworks file to a parasolid file.

Thank you Dave, but I don't have any CNC software myself. Is the parasolids converter a standalone product I could download and use?

It is included in Mastercam, if your cnc guy has Mastercam then he has the converter already. Solidworks should be able to export Parasolids also. Sometimes Mastercam has a problem converting Solidworks files but I think it's a version issue more than anything. I've never had a problem converting a Parasolids file.

Thanks Dave. I got Rhinocerous to convert it to the parasolids. Looks like it will work. Thanks again Dave. Kudos to you.

If your guy does not have solids with his mastercam software have the solidworks driver save the file as an .igs file from solidworks. Then it can be imported into Mastercam as a surfaced 3D model.
Be carefull what you wish for, you might get it.

To save an .igs file from Solidworks you first need to check both wireframe and surfaces or it will default to only surfaces. You don't need Mastercam solids to read a Parasolids file, only to write a Parasolids file.

I've had to do this many times before. If the .igs file doesn't work save the files as a ProE file. I've had luck when I couldn't get the .igs or Solidworks file to be read using ProE files. It will export as a solid model that even older MasterCAM versions should be able to read.
