Send serial file directly to Fanuc motherboard.

I'm trying to recover from memory loss and having difficulty getting the machine bring up the serial port options. I presume the parameters are wrong but which ones are a question.
I was wondering if it was possible to directly connect to the main board and write the parameters, bypassing the machine interface?

A few searches basically came up nill.

The board is a A02B-0099-B544 FANUC.

what error you get when you try to upload the parameters to memory board?
first time you need to enter the 900 parameters and the baudrtae on parameter 552 and parameter 2 for stop bit for the channel 0
first serial port is standard so must work with no problem on connector M5

    Thanks for the replies.

I have entered the 900 series parameters from the printout that came which has the machine and they have matching serial numbers. Once the 900 numbers are entered, the hard push button panel comes alive. On the screen I get AUTO MDI EDIT come up and they basically rotate with each power on. The hard keys do not alter the state. In some cases, pressing some of the mode keys do change the screen.

It is like one of the 900 parameters is incorrect and the mode signal input is floating and takes a value on at random. On rebooting and getting the EDIT option, I still cant get anything serial port realted to activate.

Just to confirm my original question, any motherboard sent in for repair or a new one cannot be programmed by the repair shop. All parameters have to reinstalled at the machine.
It then makes sense to possibly have a spare motherboard fully programmed in stock in case of issues.

Drives and other boards are just a straight swap out.

the parameters and the diagnose must be inputed in the MDI mode and ussualy with the EMG pressed
if you can not transfer by rs232 you have to do it manually entering the parameters and diagnose
    good luck

Agreed, find PWE (parameter write enable) set it to one, with the memory open there is usually a warning error 100 (I think). Not all parameters need e-stop when error 100 is active.

There is also a parameter for input data source, cable or card slot for example. (Parameter 4 ?)

Re: Send serial file directly to Fanuc motherboard.

If you can't write to the MB directly, then it has to be through the RS232. This means that after entering the special parameters, the RS232 must become active. I cannot see the machine builder enter 1000's of number by hand.

After talking to Fanuc today, they said that the special parameters are written by Fanuc for the machine builder and stored in EPROM (or similar). This implies that if the computer goes faulty, then replacing it will also need the EPROMS re-written.

Looks like a copy of the EPROM should be done.

    Can anyone confirm this ?

    Thanks Wallace.

Fanuc is wrong: the 'special' (option) parameters are stored in sram. If there is a problem in the eproms, you will get a 99X alarm. Sice you don't have that, don't worry about the eproms.

Sorry, I think my wording was wrong. The user can enter the specail parameters but the values they enter depends on the program in EEPROM that Fanic created to interface the builder options with the Fanic control.

If the Fanuc 900 series was universal, then there would be a doucument from fanuc saying what each one does. EG 900 = 00000001 => keyboard type 1. 900 = 00000010 => keyboard type 2. etc. I can find no such document.

But from what I undertand the functions are designed between Fanuc and the machine bulder.

Can you use Fanuc software to see what each 900 series does ?

These documents exist and I have most of them. That is why I know for most controls which parameter bit controls a particular option for each software version.

Do you have anything that may suit the YANG ?

I have them for all '0' series controls.

Re: Send serial file directly to Fanuc motherboard.

I may have the serial port working. I can get LSK flashing on the screen and data is being transmitted. I'm trying to work out the required data format as I dont have a backup.
    I think it is

    %
    N0001 P 01000000
    N0002 P 10111101
    %

    I have data from N0001 - N8399

I have tried to upload a few times but not been successful.

Can Ioad a subset of data say from N0001 - N0999, or what block sizes does the Fanuc expect ?

Re: Send serial file directly to Fanuc motherboard.

I have successfully loaded in the Paramater file from PC and I have no component errors. Still have Not Ready flashing but no errors. I'll address that later.

I beleive I need to recreate or reenter PMC data.

Is this what I'm looking for or part of it ?

If so, where/how do I enter it ?
