help with fields displaying objects' areas

I have found that the only way to maintain the formatting of fields showing a pline's area when selecting a new one is to copy the pline and text with field at the same time. the question is, is there a better way?

I have run into a new problem where this workaround isnt even working - when fields are inserted into tables. When I copy a table with fields in it and the associated plines I am not getting the usual transference that I typically get - the fields remain connected to the original plines, not the newly copied ones.I dont understand why tables would behave differently. Can anyone suggest a solution?

    thanks so much in advance
