    LS3020 ENGRAVING PROBLEM.

    Hi
Am recent LS3020 purchaser. Whilst I think I have cutting 3mm acrylic down now I am experiencing problems whilst engraving. I'd like to be able to engrave a name into my acrylic and then cut around it, I manage it now and again however mostly when it starts engraving the name before it finishes the engraving it seems to jolt to the left or right and resume engraving resulting in the name being split and unreadable. I import my coreldraw images into newly draw and then use newlydraw to insert text for engraving. Also some of my saved newlydraw files (.ndr) won't open anymore resulting in ND shutting down. I have XP and cutting is fine.

I'd also like to be able to engrave detail of my images and then cut out afterwards however can't bring myself to try it yet!

Machine set at 21 amps and 12 speed for cutting. I have not changed any settings for engraving (scan) as yet. I was wondering if it is a font thing?

Any setting / font combinations plus image guidance would be very well appreciated.

What am I doing wrong when engraving? Any advice from HPC LS3020 owners?

    Cheers
    Steve

    Engraving scan speed.

    Hello

it could be a mechanical issue :-

the first thing i would try is to reduce the scan speed to 1/2 or even 1/4 of max. See if the problem goes away. find out what speed the problems begin to happen.
Obviously you dont want to be condemned to operating at 1/4 speed for ever more but this will narrow down your investigations.

if this test works, it confirms a mechanical problem.
it could be a loose or skewed belt , loose grub screw in a pulley somewhere, pulley mounting block misaligned, or motor missing steps at high speed. (all in the X-axis i reckon, but no harm in checking Y for tightness while you in there )

things can work loose over time especially when you do a lot of engraving.
i had similar symptom to what you describe when the lens had worked loose in its mounting.

    Eliminate these things first.

I typically tend operate my chinese engraver at about 80% speed for engraving since the head assembly is quite heavy and the inertia/momentum of it scanning can develop vibration at full speed. At 100% speed there are sometimes 'problems' such as you describe - which might not rear its ugly head until half way through a job , by which time the piece is ruined and the time is wasted!

    cheers
