Unhappy LG 500 Engraver keypad display not turning on

I bought the LG500 50W CO2 engraver from Automated Technologies in September and it arrived in October. Total run time is about 7 hours and I have had no problems until yesterday, December 3rd.

I was used the engraver at 30% power engraving an image. It was not coming out properly (file was bad copy) so I stopped the engraver, loaded a different image (better quality) and began again. That image came out perfect. I turned off the engraver to make adjustments to the first image. Went back to the engraver about an hour and a half later, went to power up the system and the Control Panel will not turn on. I have power at the power supply (verified 120v) and I have power at several other locations verified by voltmeter and lights.

I do not know if the computer processor is getting the proper power to energize the Control Panel. Frustrating because It was working fine one moment, turned it off, went to turn back on and didn't work. NEED HELP!

I have the same unit and the only time it did that was when the E stop was pushed in. Have you checked that

I have checked my E-stop and it is not pushed in. I check the operation of it as well to make sure it is operating properly. However I noticed on my power supply that 118vac are going in, but 2.5vdc are coming out (supposed to be 24vdc). I think the power supply is bad. Only had the machine for almost 2 months. Total run time about 8 hours.

    Hello ,

Panel power was from Controller which 24V power supply supports .
When you set 50% power , you will get 2.5V from controller ,it is correct .
I think you should probably check the wires or the pins connection under the panel and on controller .
Or I think you can contact the manufacture to confirm the panel problem.
And normally the 24V power supply is not broken easily .

    Best regards,

Mary, thank you for the reply. I did as you suggested and checked the cables again coming from my main panel to my control panel. Energized the system and still no change. So I began to think about the (key) switch. It was the only thing that I changed from turning it off to turning it back on 90 minutes later. Here is what I found:

Picture (1): With no power to the system there are no voltage readings anywhere, expected.

Picture (2): With power introduced to the system, e-stop not actuated and no key inserted, there is power on three lines (two reds and one green) and one line has no power (one green).

Picture (3): With power introduced, e-stop not actuated and key inserted, there is power on both red lines and no power on green lines. (The power that was present at the key switch is now not-present when turned on)

Picture not taken, but when the power is provided and the e-stop is actuated, there is power to one side of the e-stop (one red) and no present power to the other three lines (one red, two greens).

Is it possible that I could have a faulty switch and it is grounding itself out not allowing power to flow through the switch? I have checked all the voltages and realized that when I actuated that key switch, power disappears.
(*note* when I release the e-stop button, the power returns to the second red wire and one of the green wires.)

    Hi ,
I thought originally that the machine can be powered on ,only the panel not showing . It seems like you said there is problem on key switch or there is a possibility that the fuse is broken . Normally there will be a spare fuse in tool box ,you can check .
When you powered on machine , does the led light on or the driver light on ?
Please add me by MSN or SKYPE for more talk .

    Regards,
    Mary

Thank you all so very much for your assistance. Let me give you a run down of what happened and what I have done in troubleshooting.

Operation: The unit was running. I engraved two images to completion. Turned off the machine at the key, not e-stop. Returned about an hour and a half later, turned the machine on again at the key and it did not come on.

    Inspection:

    a) With power supplied to the machine and the key is not activated, there is 110v power available to the psu and the laser engraver psu. No lights are turned on. There is also power present on both leads that attach to the e-stop switch and power to one side of the key switch. (I thought power should be available so that when the key actuates it completes the cycle or pathway for voltage.)

    b) When I turn on the key, the 110vac in/5vdc out red (laser) and a yellow light on the laser psu turns on. When I press the test button on the laser psu a green light illuminates as well. Looking at the 110vac in/24vdc out psu, there is a green light that comes on as well. On the X,Y and Z drivers the green power light nor the red fault light illuminate. When I check the 24vdc out from the psu I get 2.5vdc. When I check the 5vdc out from the laser psu to the control panel I get 5vdc.

    c) Continuity checks on all cables pass. I checked the operation of both the e-stop switch and the key switch, both pass. What I noticed is that when I turn the key on, the power that was once present on one side of the switch is now absent. Now there is no power on either side of the switch. When I turn the key off, power returns to one side of the switch again.

    d) There is no activity with the control key pad.

Conclusion: I believe the power supply is bad because it is not producing the 24vdc output. All other components appear to be working fine. I have not opened the power supply (do not want to void warranty). I've been talking with the company, problem is thatI live in Hawaii and the company is in Illinois.

ANY HELP IS WELCOMED! Progression of my business rest on the restoration of my engraver. (Let me know if I should check or do anything else.
