Adding 3rd axis/live tooling to lathe

Hiya guys, just wondering if anyone has added indexing to their lathe spindle? Should be easy enough to control it, just need a method of dis-engaging the servo motor when I want to run in normal lathe mode.
Obviously I will need live tooling to go with this idea, so has anyone built a milling attatchment designed for turning? I guess this would be programmed the same as a rotary axis on the mill eh?

If you put a servo/stepper on the spindle it could be engaged by a simple DC clutch, and the control would be a 360deg indexer. Every time you engage it, you would have to reference it first.
