We have a DX II that locked up today because it ran out of memory. I dropped a disk in, copied all the EZ Trak files to it, and erased all the files in the machine. Now it won't boot up. Bios screen says there is no C drive. I thought I was just erasing program files to make room. I don't believe we have the software for this machine. Any ideas out there?

Ran out of memory? Just as an FYI: Hard Drive (and floppy disk) storage capacity has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with "memory"

Memory = your computer's RAM

If you're randomly deleting files from your HD or FD, you've probably deleted your boot files including MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS, CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, not to mention the EZ Trak configuration files.

D-Money, Thank you for the information. I thought I was just erasing the program files from the machione, but I obviously did more than that. My post was intended to get info on where I might the files needed to get up and running again. Do you know where I might find them?

Did your DX come with an actual hard drive, a "disk on module," or one of the 8MB flash cards? Just wondering because accidentally deleting boot-up files shouldn't make the drive vanish from the BIOS screen. The problem you're having might be caused by something different. Do you happen to know how old your CMOS battery is? If your CMOS battery is old, or low on power, your BIOS settings might have reset to default, which could cause your hard drive to not show-up.

If it turns out to be your CMOS battery, you'll need to re-enter the CHS settings for your hard drive (Cylinders, Heads, Sectors, Landing Zone, Pre-comp, etc).

Typically, the PC BIOS can auto-detect the correct settings for a hard drive, but with the older computers inside EZ-Trak machines, you'll probably have to enter them manually. You can usually find the correct settings on the sticker on the top of the hard drive. If the info isn't there, you can just google the make/model of the drive and find the correct settings on-line.

With the old PC BIOS there are usually pre-programmed HD settings for "types" 1 to 45 or so, with 46 and 47 usually reserved for manually input CHS info.

If your DX box is running via the 8MB flash-card, if I remember correctly, you'll need to set the hard drive to the "Type 1" preset.
