X axis falls to bottom of stroke when servos shut off

I have a 1996 HL2. Bought it new. Auto off button works correctly the machine move to the home position. When the servos shut off the X axis falls to the bottom against the hard stop. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a mechanical brake or lock that should be holding it in place?
    Thanks,

    Dave

With your age of machine, there should be a big spring in place that will hold the X-Axis. Remove the back panel and you should clearly see it.
