    G320X Connection help needed

    I am looking to run a Techno metal lathe using the original DC brush servos.
    My data on the motors is incomplete, but I do have pinouts at the DB15 connections to the logic board.
    I'd like some guidance on connecting these to the G320X terminals.

    Here's what the Techno docs show:

    Pin # Function Encoder Type (Dynapar) 1000ppr
    1 E-Stop Loop White (Jumper to Pin 15)
    2 A Red/BLK
    3 B WHT/BLK
    4 I Blue
    5 +5V Red
    6 HOME Switch (see diagram) Red (From HOME Switch)
    7 No connection NONE
    8 +24V Brown
    9 No connection NONE
    10 A Green
    11 B Orange
    12 I White
    13 Encoder GND Black
    14 HOME Switch GND (see diagram) Black (from HOME Switch)
    15 E-Stop Loop White (Jumper to Pin 1)

    How do I match these up with the G320X terminals?

    I'll be running this from the original toroidal transformer/power supply, 48V. It has taps for 24V 12V and 5V.
    Would I be better off using a separate 5V power supply for the encoders?

    You need to seperate out the actual encoder connections which would be

    2 A Red/BLK
    3 B WHT/BLK
    4 I Blue
    5 +5V Red10 A Green
    10 A Green
    11 B Orange
    12 I White
    13 Encoder GND Black

    while it does not specify the positive and negative connections of th encoder I would venture a guess that that 2,3,4 are the negative signals while 10,11,12 are positive. read the manual for the drive that will start to make some sense of the rest estop / enable circuit is strange on that drive though.

    I realize many of those connections do not go to the drives.
    Would I be better off to replace the encoders with some AMT units, that are documented?

    is there no model # on the encoder? must be something there... does it have a millspec type connector?

    The encoder is under a shield which did not look easily removeable. I assumed the whole motor and encoder was more or less sealed. I probably need to investigate that further.
    I did contact the manufacturer of the motor for additional information, but did not realize the encoder was a separate component.

    sometimes...sometimes not, what brand and model motor is it? dont just remove the encoder from the motor, you could cause a lot of issues that way.

    Here's what is on the labels:

    Current, Cont. 1.99 AMPS

    I tracked down MCG as having been acquired by Ametek.
    They sent me the data sheet attached above, which has nothing on the encoders.
    The Techno docs do not have any model numbers for the encoders, just the pinouts above.

    I think I need to do some more investigating

    sorry never looked at the spec sheet, you should be able to remove that encoder of the back of the motor and not cause problems. if its a dynapar encoder you could probably look at the document link below and determine what the connections should be.

    OK, here's what I have. No label visible. Might be on the bottom.
    Does this look like a Dynapar? I'll take it off if I really need to.

    not from the ones that I know they usually do not have plastic frame parts. maybe you are better off trying to find out how they connect to your current servo drives? see if you can find a manual for your existing servo drives that shows how the encoders connect.

    No info available. All I got was minimal data sheet on the motors.
    No hardware info, drive manufacturer was bought out years ago.
