    VF3 Gear box replacement ????

    Hello,
    My 1996 VF3 with 10k spindle has been having trouble changing from low to high. Ive done a search and found alot of good stuff.
    So far Ive replaced the Mac valve and drilled out the restrictors to .030.
    Its a little better, but not 100%
    Now I want to take the gear box out and examin-debur-re o ring ect...

    Can any one give me a procedure to remove the gearbox?

    Any help would be greatly appreicated!

    Hi Mark

    OK put about 5 hours aside. Its an easy enough job. One thing before you start Is there a shot pin used to orintate the spindle. This is on the gearbox behind the motor, a small square block, you will see the pin shoot in and out as you orintate the spindle

    you need to remove the tool release piston disconnect the air lube line to the spindle make sure you cover the spindle so you do not get contamination in it or plug the hole after you remove the lube line if you have through spindle coolant disconnect all that as well. you can leave most of the wires connected just a ground wire the tool release button wire and the pcool are the only wires you need to loosen then get a forklift and raise the trans make sure the head is down so you do not damage the z axis duct this should give you enough room to raise the head above the casting enough to remove the oil pan once you do that everything is right there. make sure you block the forklift so it does not come down on your head i never trust anything hydraulic or otherwise. sometimes when you lift hte head the casting may want to sail up because of the counterweight you may have to stop the ballscrew so it does not pinch your fingers or your hand. when raising the head make sure you go slow and watch both sides of the trans to make sure you did not forget any wires or hoses etc.
