    Check out: ezdro.com
Also usdigital.com has an inexpensive counter/display that I have used successfully as a machine DRO.

This uses the parallel port, I have found it inputs Encoder or scales directly without the buffer transistors, http://www.lindsayengraving.com/othe...rests/dro.html
The only thing is with a Laptop, you may get 3.5 volts out rather than the necessary 5v.
