PC to CNC devices for older CNCs (RS232 <--> USB)

We have a couple older Mori-Seiki CNC machines, that just have RS232 inputs. For many years, we've been using a Palm Pilot as a way to get programs off our PC, to the machines.

I'm looking for a better way to do this, since if the current setup breaks it will be difficult to replace quickly. What I'm imagining is a device that connects to a computer via USB, and can then initiate sending data to a CNC via RS232. Something exactly like this, I think:

USB Connect External - Shop Floor Automations

But, $700 seems insane. Anyone know of a cheaper device that accomplishes the same thing?

    Thanks.

I would recommend to use RS232-to-Ethernet devices like MOXA Nport 5110. They are more stable.
AGG Software. DNC Precision and CNC Syntax Editor software.

It looks like the Nport is just an adapter, between ethernet and RS232...is that right? I'm looking for something that can hold the data, then initiate the transfer to the CNC machine.

I have several older machines that RS232 and DNC just fine. I use an older 9X operating system simply because they handle ports far better than newer OS's, then a simple procom or bitcom will do the trick, its free

sorry, new to this forum, ment to respond to alpinems post, get it on the network and move around the code easy
