MY 2000 SL20
VER 04.27N
MOCON#1 10.02
(main board marked 3092K, REV C,JAN 2011)

We lost our data during a battery change on our SL20.

We were able to recover most of it from a backup we did before the change. Called HAAS and got the unlock codes for our "upgrades", checked our axis movement with an indicator, and ran our warm-up program for the spindle and live tooling.

We ran a part program in graphics mode and everything was good. Went to test the program "cutting air" and the machine rebooted under spindle decel on a canned cycle with G96.

After pulling my hair out for a day, I found that I could cause the same fault by commanding any rapid spindle speed change, whether it's within a program or by rapidly turning the jog handle while under spindle override.

The machine just reboots itself, with no error codes other than spindle turning while not expected, I'm guessing this is due to the spindle still coasting down when the machine is booting up.

We don't have the original manual for the machine with the printout of the settings and parameters when it was first assembled, nor do we have the original backup disk. Just the full machine backup from last week.

I took a video of the screen during a reboot under accel. It happens at the 0:30 mark, though strangely, this time it didn't happen the fist two times the spindle accelerated.

I also took a vid of the electrical cabinet during a decel. I pulled the cover off the boards and reconnected the grounds during the test so I could see the leds.

You can see the boards lose power during the reset at 1:15 on decel.

DC Buss is a steady 340v on the display, I'll check it at the vector drive tomorrow.

I was able to get the machine to run without rebooting by changing:

PARAM 196 ACCEL LIMIT LOAD from 195 to 100

Which limits the spindle acceleration to 100% (+/- 4%)

But I feel that's covering a deeper issue.

I'm thinking it might be an improper spindle parameter in the backup.

The machine ran fine for 8 years beforehand (other than frying the Vector Drive and Spindle Servo Amp in 2017).

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any input on what to check next? I'd rather not run the machine with this bandaid and risk doing damage.

The spindle parameters are currently:
