I am considering buying a router to use in conjunctuin with PhotoVcarve. I am concerned that the linear xz or xyz motion will run slow and jerky. Does the techno with their own controller handle this ok? Or would I be better off with more of a customized machine with wincnc? Wincnc claims that this motion is buffered using proprietary real time vector matching routines creating a smooth machine. Any input will be appreciated.

I don't know about wincnc but with Mach3 you will have a LOT more support!

The Techno controller keeps everything quite smooth. You don't DNC to it realtime, you feed it the whole .NC file and preprocess it before running the first time.

Install the controller card in the PC, load the software and you are up and running in a handful of minutes on a cheap machine or one that was headed for the recycle bin. I've needed support twice in 3 years and they are responsive, professional and know how to get you running. You get what you pay for.

How does Techno LC cope with cutting aluminum?

4mm in one pass is ok, with the right tool, and in decent machining or marine grade aluminium. Have a look at http://www.waka.co.nz/gallery.html for stills and video of Techno's in action.

I just went through the complete pricing with techno and when all said and done shopsabre beat them hands down on price and they both are good machines ,but techno did not offer a ac digital servo motor upgrade as shopsabre did.I had mine a little over 2 months set up was simple and easy even for a novice like myself.
