HomeShopCNC does not buy one spindle at a time they buy in smaller lots from 3 party.... then sell to you there lots of mark up ...im not say keiling or HomeShopCNC.... make 150% these units dont cost that much to make in china labour is dirt cheap there.
Dont know where you get 700% but it just hows you.. there are to many middle men... febay etc making a good mark up.... its easy money...
cheaper will alwas have lower mark up, but the 3.3kw to 7.5 kw units have the more or less the same core... just larger...
a little bigger motor etc larger bearings... larger vfd etc the labour cost to assemble is not much more to build.
how much do think chai is make per unit... 20 bucks....

I went through the settings on my XIN YE ELECTRIC - YP-C1D5-2G against the ones that Scott listed from the partially translated manual.
My concern is the report that setting the minimum frequency less than 100Hz won't allow the internal fan in the spindle to start which burns out the spindle.
I thought it might be the P0008 setting, but the numbers don't make sense (it's currently set to 002.45).
Here are my current settings (in blue):
P0000: Running ways (0: Board Control; 1: outside control)00000

I've only run my spindle for a short burst in the video in my previous post, but now I am a little hesitant in starting it up again until there is some confirmation on the correct VFD settings.
Here is a scanned copy of the Chinese manual pages 16-21, that details the code settings of the VFD.
If anyone is able to translate any of it, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking of buying one of these, but I am limited to 110 volts. I currently have Hitachi lm100 1/2 hp vfd that runs off of 110vac, but that needs 10 amps in and only supplies 2.6 amp out. I have found a vendor in the states that has 3hp (2.2kw) vfd that runs off 110vac and outputs 10 amps. I know I can't cheat ohms law, but just want to double check. If this vfd has an output of 220v 10 amps, the input is 110vac...will I need a 40 amp line to make this work?

i have this question for you... i see a lot of spindle advertisted as 380v 2.2kw
my question is do the 380v units work on 220V power?
or have most people not paided attention to this... or Should we just stayaway from 380 v units cus there trouble ...I would like to get some
people to post there experiance and perhaps tell us what the spec on there unit was regard the voltage?
Here is a partial translation of the P code table from the manual. maybe P0055 is the one to set to prevent spindle burn out?

The air cooled spindles...is this air cooling like a vw (old) beetle or do you need to connect it to a compressed air line?
There are some people at work who do Chinese. I'm waiting on one other to do a translation to compare the two.

I think you cannot get 220V3ph from 110V in.You must have 220V in???
Larger spindles from China are 380V3phase.This is OK in Canada with Industrial voltage of 575V 3 Ph or US with 460V as a step down transformer is cheap.
If running a home shop probably the largest spindle you can use is a 2.2KW 220V/3Phase.
From the questions asked,a qualifyed electritian is required if you do not want to smoke the spindle or VFD.Suddenly your $300.00 spindle may cost over a grand.Qualifyed electritians are very busy as they are few.They can charge $50 to100/Hr for their services.

Keep up the good work on the epoxy/granite machine base thread. I have followed it from the beginning. I am currently building a gang lathe using a granite surface plate as the base.
I believe it was the EG thread that inspired the surface plate. It is long term project..as time and money permit.

Do you think the 1.5KW would machine aluminum ok? Or do you think it would require something more powerful?
I don't believe that the rotary phase converter would allow you to vary your speed as it would only put out the same frequency as input which would be 50 or 60 cycle. The spindles need 400 HZ or 400 cycles/second for max speed.
A VFD, on the other hand, converts single phase to three phase plus varies the frequency for speed control.

I,ve just recieved my vfd & spindle from Chai and it,s done exactly the same as yours. Flash bang on startup but still works and as blown exactly the same chip in the same place?
I,ve not got intouch with chai yet as it`s only just happened,but just wondered how you have gone on regards your problem and if you got intouch with chai what was the out come?
Like you i wonder why it`s happened and whether it,s worth sending back to china, which wont be cheap from UK or just try and replace the chip?
All in all not a good start but i,ve dealt with Chai a few times now and always been treat with great respect and 1st class service, which i,m sure wil be the case this time?

Some confusion here.If you buy a 220V3Ph spindle and VFD you must have a feed of 220V single or 3Ph.If you have a 3KW spindle a 110V,VFD is usless.A VDF cannot up the rated Voltage.You must buy a spindle by the voltage you have in your shop.
These spindles in general are 8,000 RPM to 24,00RPM and called milling spindles.To mill mild steel with a 3/8 end mill the RPM is 1067RPM.One zone member purchased a 50,000RPM spindle,These are only useful as circuit board routers.
I feel sorry for Chai as he has bent over backwards to make people happy.From the posts here,Spindle smoking is probably from lack of information or knowledge from the users.Perhaps contacting some famous CNC Zoners such as Geof or Al the man could give some concrete answers.
