The Coherent 150 watt has a 6 inch long tube out the front that changes the beam from a diamond to a circle. This tube is called the "beam shaper". Coherent has done a nice job on this laser as the output is nearly 200 watts of cutting power. I have seen this slice through nearly 1/8" steel at KERN laser systems. www.kernlasers.com. Other laser manufactures are using 100 watts and Universals 120 watt. The size weight ratio is good for the power and can be mounted in several configurations. You can move this laser or use it on a flying optic setup. Coherent's 150 has a peak pulse of nearly 500 watts during initial pulse which is great for cutting thick materials. I've seen this laser up against others like Synrads 200watt but even though Synrads power is higher the Coherent 150 will cut faster because of the mode. Good mode or beam concentricity is key. If i was to buy a laser or build one Coherent 150 would get my vote.
