Need to make some stamps. Recommendations for material

I need to make about a dozen stamps with some small lettering on them to stamp into 316 stainless. Any recommendations for material type and heat treatment?

01 tool steel will work as it is easily machined and will hold a sharp edge. You can torch harden and quench in oil for a small run. If you need these stamps for long use, consider A2 air hard or M2, both of which you will probably have to send out for heat treat.
