    Collecting date from CNCs

    Hi all

I have some 30 CNC machines from various manufacturers, about 90% is Fanuc.
I would like to collect data from those machines into a separate Database,
    Preferably through OPC.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Can you help with ideas?

    Many Thanks

    Shanimi

    What is OPC?

You can probably use DPRNT to output data. If the data does not exist within the CNC memory space, then you might require external devices to collect the data.

    gar,

The data is simple parts and error counters and possibly the operator name.
I guess this may be found within the CNC computer.

I come from the PLC world of automation, in my world you connect everything to Ethernet and read what ever you want.

I would like to do the same here - connect it all to Ethernet and read those counters somehow

What you can do is very much dependent upon the particular CNC controller and the options.

On HAAS machines, these are somewhat copied from Fanuc, with the MACROS option until recently it was a one way street. You could send data out with DPRNT, but not receive unless you were specifically in RECV. This is very good from a security perspective. Newer HAAS machines have some capability to be interrogated. I do not have one of these so I can not give you details.

With DPRNT you can within the CNC program output formated information from any of the readable #-number addresses and within this formatted output you can include words composed from a limited portion of the ASCII alphabet. See the HAAS on-line mill manual.

What you desire to do can be done through the use of Fanuc BOP software on a PC and an ethernet connection to the machines (assuming they are equipped with one).

I would suggest you contact your local GE Fanuc or Fanuc represenative for technical details and pricing.

If you send an email to me at psevin_at_ovationengineering.com I will forward you additional details.

You can use a Dprint command (macros) on the Fanuc control, assuming the option is enabled. This data can come back to Ascii file and then you can import into whatever you want.

If you want a solution already done, check our Predator MDC Sofware. They also have an MDC Adapter to support collecting data from the CNC if the control does not have this Macro option.

    Good luck!
