I've worked with laser engravers but these have all engraved direct from Corel which I'm happy working with.

I'm considering buying one of the cheap CO2s for myself but they only appear to work with a program called NewlyDraw.

From what I read its easy enough to export files from Corel to a format that NewlyDraw can use but my question is....

How does the quality of the engraving from a NewlyDraw imported file compare with that when you are engraving direct from a Corel file ie raster.

I have been using DXF format to import Corel files into Newlydraw. The splines will be converted but with the right settings shouldn't affect quality.

Raster images (jpg/bmp) also work fine, although I've only used Photoshop.

Ray, have a look at LinkMotion, by Solustan.
It has a number of ways to interface with Lasers, and I'm currently in the process (with some excellent help from Solustan engineers) of setting it up to control my laser using a Leetro 6515 controller.
